Dzisiejszy tygodnik „Polityka” opublikował ranking europosłów, oceniając ich faktyczną pracę w Parlamencie Europejskim. Wśród sześciu wyróżnionych parlamentarzystów znalazł się Paweł Kowal, z 4 pozytywnymi opiniami jurorów. Pracę posłów oceniała piętnastka jurorów – dziennikarzy na co dzień przyglądających się pracom Parlamentu oraz ekspertów zajmujących się polityką europejską.
O ocenie decydował przede wszystkim realny wpływ posła na kształt unijnych przepisów. Uważnie analizowane były wystąpienia na posiedzeniach plenarnych i zadawane pytania, gdyż te statystyki niejednokrotnie nie odzwierciedlają rzeczywistego udziału w procesie tworzenia prawa wspólnotowego. Jurorzy docenili przede wszystkim pracę Pawła Kowala w zakresie jego specjalności, czyli polityki wschodniej, programu Partnerstwa Wschodniego oraz stosunków z Ukrainą. Zwrócili też uwagę na fakt, że choć pełni on funkcję prezesa PJN, potrafi skutecznie pogodzić ją z działalnością europejską.
Łącznie wyróżnionych zostało 16 parlamentarzystów, wśród których znalazł się także drugi europoseł PJN – Marek Migalski.
